Mooka

The Diva's challenge this week was to use Mooka as a monotangle. This what I came up with.

I'm not sure why (camera settings I guess) but I had to go back and really darken the shading before it showed up in the photo. And it still looks light.

I like this version (white on black) from an earlier photo.

Pinwheels and such

I started with the Diva's Challenge for this week but wasn't getting anywhere, instead I ended up with these two drawings.

The first is 3 pinwheels.

This second would be the "such."

Dansk

This week's Diva Challenge is to use the tangle Dansk. And it's always a challenge for me to draw long parallel lines. I don't know what this is but that's the beauty of the tangle. It just is what it is.

String Number 3

I haven't done a Diva's Challenge in a while and haven't even put pen to paper in the past few weeks. Anyway, here's my crack at this week's challenge, string number 3 - it's a little busy for my tastes so I used the string as a see-through to what's underneath.

I got back a couple weeks ago from a trip heading south, from Detroit to the Gulf, driving the back roads and shooting some photos. I invite you to take a look at the previous few posts and I hope you come back over the next week or so to see what else happened.

not an itsy bitsy teenie weenie

The diva's challenge this week is to use Keenees. I've been fooling with Warts and Wobbles recently so I ran Keenees down the center and embellished the outsides with Henna Drum.

henna drum and a day off

I had the day off today and it's raining so I did this. It's got henna drum, rain and some leaves.

no strings

The diva's challenge this week was to not use a string but I rarely use one anyway.

I started with some cactus looking things then did my rope coils. I used Rain to tie them together with a version of Warts and Wobbles as a blocker in the top right. And to fill up some white space on the left side of the paper, Cockles 'n' Mussels made a simple, irregular background.

Hah! It almost sounds like I planned this ahead of time.

But what usually happens is I get a couple patterns on paper then go to Tangle Patterns and wait till something pops up that might fit in.

mickey challenge

This week at the Diva's is a guest challenge for the 80-year anniversary of the Disney film "Steamboat Willie." I liked the Mickey pattern Courtney came up with so that's what I focused on.

laying out onions

Another diva's challenge (here) based on the tangle SOCC.

And I had my own mini ah-ha moment in my experiments with SOCC. I wasn't really getting it, this new tangle pattern didn't make sense, then I looked kinda sideways and it was like someone laid out some onions on a table. It was easy to draw after that.

Anyway, this is my interpretation of SOCC. But I'm going to see it as onions.

the look of coiled rope

I was looking around and I got this idea from here at the zentangle blog.

I like circles and there's something relaxing about coiled rope (it brings order to the chaos) and the way my camera takes pictures, the lighting in the room, this has a soft look. And if I added some shading, it might add some age. I'd have coils of old rope.

Anyway, I might continue and do a bit more with this picture but for now it's ok as-is.

And it's very easy to draw. Do your swirl then finish by drawing the red line.

some things make a something

I started with these things. They look like mcdonald's french fry holders.

I added eyeballs on the french fry holders and these other tentacle things.

Then I turned the tentacle things into mini-wormholes (I've been watching alot of Stargate Atlantis lately) and out the other side comes a ribbon each.

So I ended up with a bunch of things all put together making a something.

boiling mud

The diva's challenge this week (here) is to create a tangle using Bunzo. After some playing around, it looked like boiling mud.

Here's a picture of boiling mud at Yellowstone.

And I've been confounded for the past few days with a stopped-up right ear. I was using an earwax removal kit from Meijer with only some slight relief. Today I started using drops of hydrogen peroxide. It seems to be breaking up the wax a bit better, with a bubbling - like the way that Yellowstone picture looks.
